Euro Surges Against Pound as Germany's Economic Sentiment Soars
The Euro has ticked higher against the British Pound on Tuesday, driven by positive economic sentiment figures from Germany. The EUR/GBP pair reached session highs at 0.8555, closing in on its weekly top of 0.8560.
Data released by the ZEW Institute showed that German Economic Sentiment Index rose to 34.2 in August, beating expectations of a more moderate improvement to 30. This indicates brighter economic expectations across all sectors as Germany continues to benefit from government infrastructure plans.
However, the UK's employment report failed to support the Sterling, with the ILO Unemployment Rate remaining at 4.9% in the three months to June, unchanged from the previous month. Employment growth slowed down, but the number of claimants fell unexpectedly, cushioning the negative impact on the Pound.
