Euro Surges as BoE Holds Rates Amid Rising Inflation Concerns
The Euro has climbed against the Pound as Sterling slipped across the board following the Bank of England's decision to hold interest rates at 3.75%. The BoE's 6-3 vote was seen as more cautious than expected, with three dissenting members advocating for an immediate quarter-point rise.
UK inflation is running at a five-month high of 3.1%, well above the 2% target, and the Bank warned that price risks are tilted further to the upside, making a hike increasingly likely.
BoE Governor Andrew Bailey pointed to energy price swings from the Middle East conflict, stating that 'the longer this volatility persists, the bigger the impact it will have'. However, he stressed that the central bank's job is to keep any rise in inflation temporary.
