Euro Surges as Germany's Business Sentiment Soars, Yen Weighed Down by BoJ Uncertainty
The Euro has advanced against the Japanese Yen as strong German business sentiment data and cautious Bank of Japan outlook weighed on the Yen.
Germany's IFO Business Climate Index rose to 89.9 in September, exceeding market expectations and supporting the Euro.
The Current Assessment Index also improved to 89.5 from 88.5, while the Expectations Index climbed to 90.4 from 89, reaching its highest level since February.
On the Japanese side, Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama confirmed that the foreign-exchange principles established between Japan and the United States remain in effect.
The 10-year Japanese Government Bond yield rose nearly 9 basis points to 3.071%, reaching its highest level in 30 years, but rising yields did not translate into a stronger Yen due to uncertainty surrounding further monetary tightening by the Bank of Japan.
