Euro Zone Business Activity Returns to Growth Amid Ongoing Inflation Pressures
The euro zone's business activity has returned to growth for the first time in four months, according to a survey by S&P Global. The Flash Euro Zone Composite PMI Output Index rose to 51.9 in July from June's 50.0, its highest reading in five months.
The rebound was driven by a rise in new orders, which grew for the first time since February. Export orders continued to decline, but at a slower pace than previously seen.
Services and manufacturing both contributed to the output rebound, with services recovering to a five-month high of 51.6 and manufacturing growth hitting a 52-month high.
The survey also showed that staffing levels rose in the euro zone, marking a shift after months of job shedding.
However, some experts warn that the improvements may be short-lived due to ongoing inflation pressures and renewed conflict in the Middle East.
