Euro Zone Consumers Cut Inflation Expectations Amid Brief Truce
According to a European Central Bank (ECB) poll, consumers in the Euro zone reduced their inflation expectations for the next 12 months. The median respondent in the survey forecasted inflation at 3% in June, down from 3.5% in May.
The decline in expectations was likely influenced by the brief truce in the Middle East that led to lower energy prices. However, this reprieve proved short-lived, and consumers' views on future inflation adjusted accordingly.
Expectations for inflation three years ahead also decreased to 2.8% from 2.9%, while projections for five years ahead remained unchanged at 2.4%. The ECB's Consumer Expectations Survey is a key indicator of consumer sentiment in the Euro zone.
