Euro Zone Inflation Surges to 3.8% on Energy Prices
The European Union's statistics agency Eurostat reported that euro zone inflation rose to 3.8% in September, driven by sharp increases in energy prices.
This marks a significant jump from August's rate of 3.2%, and puts inflation well above the European Central Bank's target of 2%. The acceleration was largely due to energy prices, which saw an annual increase of 18.8%.
Servcies inflation also rose, increasing to 3.2% from 3.0%, while food, alcohol and tobacco prices increased by 1.4% annually. However, prices for non-energy industrial goods eased slightly, reaching 1.1%.
