Euro-area governments have been urged to submit nominations for the next European Central Bank (ECB) president by this Friday, November 6. Eurogroup President Kyriakos Pierrakakis made the request, according to a spokesperson for the group of finance ministers from the 21-nation euro zone.
The nominations will be reviewed by euro-area finance ministers during a meeting scheduled for November 9. This process follows the upcoming departure of current ECB President Christine Lagarde, whose term is set to end soon.
The deadline for nominations is tight, with only a few days left for member states to propose candidates. The Eurogroup's call for submissions underscores the urgency of selecting a successor to lead the ECB at a critical time for the euro zone's economic policies.
