Europe Stocks Mostly Rise as US Inflation Data Weighs on Markets
European stock indices closed mostly higher yesterday, but gains were modest as investors digested the latest US inflation and growth data. The UK's FTSE 100 was the only major index to finish lower.
The Germany DAX rose by 0.19% to 26,315.92, while France's CAC 40 increased by 0.27% to 8,462.39. In contrast, Spain's Ibex and Italy's FTSE MIB rose by only 0.05% and 0.31%, respectively.
The US dollar strengthened across the board following a hotter-than-expected headline PCE inflation report. The greenback was up against the euro, yen, and British pound, but down against the Australian dollar.
