European Stocks Hold Steady Amid Oil Price Surge

European stocks remained relatively stable on Tuesday as oil prices reached their highest level this month. The pan-European STOXX 600 index was little changed, fluctuating between modest gains and losses near its record highs set earlier in August.

The energy sector led the gains, rising by 1.4% as oil prices continued to climb. This increase in oil prices has been a key concern for investors, with some warning that a prolonged disruption around the Strait of Hormuz could lead to higher inflation and cloud the outlook for monetary easing.

However, technology stocks remained among Europe's top performers this year, up about 24% year-to-date. The sector's gains have been driven by demand for AI-related products such as chips, data centers, and other hardware needed for artificial intelligence build-out.

Investors are now awaiting a slate of economic data later this week, including euro zone employment and GDP figures, as well as U.S. consumer price data. These releases will provide further clues on the path of interest rates.
