European Stocks Rise Despite Surprise Inflation Bump
Despite a surprise jump in euro area inflation to 3.8% in September from 3.2% in August, European stocks ended the week higher.
The Stoxx Europe 600 index rose by 1%, shrugging off concerns that higher interest rates could be on the horizon due to rising prices.
However, a closer look at the data revealed that energy prices were the main drivers of inflation, increasing by 18.8% from a year earlier, up from 14.3% in August.
Other categories showed less pronounced increases, suggesting that the higher inflation rate may not be as persistent or widespread as feared.
