European Stocks Rise on UK Housebuilder Rally Amid Oil Price Pressures
European stocks rose on Monday, led by a surge in British housebuilders after the government announced plans to revive an equity loan program for first-time buyers. The pan-European STOXX 600 index climbed 0.48% to 641.73 points.
The FTSE 100 index in Britain increased 0.58%, with shares of Persimmon, Barratt, Redrow, Taylor Wimpey, and Vistry rising between 13.5% and 15%. The gains were tempered by a 3% jump in Brent crude prices following US President Donald Trump's rejection of an Iranian proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Bond yields remained elevated, with Germany's 10-year government bond yield at its highest level since June 2009. Central banks have been increasing interest rates to combat oil-driven inflationary pressures.
