Europe's Chronic Heat Risk Sparks Severe Consequences Warning

Swiss Re Institute has warned of severe consequences due to Europe's chronic heat risk. The continent is experiencing its fifth heat wave this year, with temperatures that reduce agricultural productivity, strain water and energy systems, damage infrastructure, and lower labor productivity.

The report notes that only about 20% of European households have air conditioning, compared to 76% in North America. This disparity has significant implications for human health and economic productivity.

Extreme heat has left most of England gripped by drought conditions, impacting harvests, while rivers crucial to transporting key commodities are drying up. The Rhine River's low water levels have disrupted supplies, leading to higher inflation and affecting nuclear and hydro power production.
