Europe's Stocks Bounce on UK Housebuilder Rally Amid Oil Price Pressures
European shares saw an increase on Monday, driven by gains in British housebuilders. The pan-European STOXX 600 rose 0.48% to 641.73 points as of 0829 GMT.
The surge in housebuilder stocks came after the UK government announced plans to revive a policy designed to boost home ownership and construction. Persimmon, Barratt Redrow, Taylor Wimpey, Vistry shares rose between 13.5% and 15%.
However, broader market gains were capped by a 3% jump in Brent crude prices following US President Donald Trump's rejection of an Iranian proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Shares of European energy companies rose 0.6%, but miners dropped 1.7% due to falling precious metal prices.
Bond yields remained elevated, with Germany's 10-year government bond yield reaching its highest level since June 2009 at 3.6303%. Central banks have responded to oil-driven inflationary pressures by raising interest rates.
