Eurozone Bond Yields Pause Near Multi-Year Highs Amid Energy Price Concerns
The Eurozone bond selloff has paused, but yields remain near multi-year highs. The benchmark euro zone 10-year yield was down for the first time in six sessions on Tuesday, easing to 3.6526% from its highest level in 17 years on Monday.
Rising energy prices have driven the recent moves in euro zone bonds, raising concerns that an energy-led inflation shock could force the European Central Bank to keep tightening monetary policy.
ECB President Christine Lagarde said that a measured policy response remained appropriate because the recent inflation surge had not yet produced dangerous second-round effects. She also highlighted the risk that rising long-term bond yields could weigh on economic growth.
