Eurozone Inflation Accelerates Beyond Expectations
The Eurozone's inflation rate accelerated beyond expectations in September, reaching a 3.8% year-over-year (Y-o-Y) rate, according to preliminary Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) data released by Eurostat.
This marks an increase from the 3.2% recorded in August and surpasses market forecasts of a more moderate rise to 3.6%. The uptick is largely attributed to higher food and energy prices, with the core HICP ticking up to 2.5%, matching market expectations.
The strong inflation data has put additional pressure on the European Central Bank (ECB) to tighten its monetary policy further. However, high Oil prices and concerns about France's fiscal health have kept Euro buyers at bay.
