Eurozone Inflation Hits 3.2% as Energy Prices Soar
The inflation rate in the eurozone rose to 3.2% in August, surpassing July's rate by three tenths of a percentage point.
This increase is primarily driven by rising energy prices, which skyrocketed to 14.3%, compared to 10.3% in the previous month.
Despite this surge, services recorded an inflation rate of only 3%, down from July's 3.3%. Non-energy industrial goods saw a modest increase of 1.2%, while food prices remained unchanged at 1.2%.
The European Central Bank (ECB) responded to these inflationary pressures by raising interest rates by 25 basis points, setting the deposit rate at 2.5%, main refinancing operations rate at 2.65%, and marginal lending facility rate at 2.90%.
