Eurozone Inflation Hits 3.3% in August Amid Energy Price Surge
The eurozone's inflation rate has risen to 3.3% in August, according to preliminary estimates from Eurostat. This is a four-tenths increase compared to July.
The main driver of this rise is the surge in energy prices, which have reached 14.3%. This is significantly higher than the previous month's figure of 10.3%, reflecting ongoing tensions in energy markets.
In contrast, services saw a slight moderation in their year-on-year growth to 3%, down from 3.3% in July. Meanwhile, non-energy industrial goods experienced a modest increase of 1.2%, up from 0.9% in the previous month.
Lithuania, Bulgaria, and Cyprus are leading the inflation ranking within the eurozone with rates above 5%. At the other end of the spectrum, Estonia and the Netherlands have annual price increases below 2%.
