Eurozone Inflation Hits Three-Year High at 3.8%
The Eurozone inflation rate surged to its highest level in three years in September, reaching 3.8% year-on-year and outpacing economists' expectations of 3.6%. This marks a significant increase from August's 3.2%, with prices rising 0.6% on the month.
The sharp rise was driven by energy prices, which jumped 18.8% compared to last year, up from 14.3% growth in August. Service inflation also picked up to 3.2% from 3.0%, while food and alcohol prices increased 1.4% from 1.1%. Core inflation, excluding energy, food, and tobacco, rose to 2.5% from 2.4%, with a monthly increase of 0.2%.
Among the Eurozone members, Lithuania recorded the highest annual inflation rate at 6.1%, followed by Bulgaria at 5.6%. Germany's inflation rate increased to 3.3% from 2.9%, while France saw its rate climb to 3.4% from 2.6%. Spain and Italy also reported higher rates, at 5.0% and 4.1% respectively.
