Eurozone Inflation Hits Three-Year High on Energy Price Surge
The Eurozone inflation rate has surged to its highest level in three years, reaching 3.8% year-over-year in September, according to preliminary figures from Eurostat.
This marks a significant increase from August's 3.2%, exceeding the expected rate of 3.6% predicted by economists. Energy prices were the primary driver of this surge, jumping 18.8% compared to last year and up 14.3% just a month prior.
Services inflation also picked up, reaching 3.2%, while food, alcohol, and tobacco inflation increased to 1.4%. Core inflation, which excludes energy, food, alcohol, and tobacco, rose to 2.5% from 2.4%.
