Eurozone Inflation Reaches Three-Year High at 3.3 Percent
The Eurozone's inflation rate has reached its highest level in three years, hitting 3.3 percent in August. This significant jump surpasses the European Central Bank's two-percent target and is up sharply from July's 2.9 percent.
The main driver of this increase is energy prices, which rose by 14.3 percent in August after a 10.3 percent rise in July. The ongoing war in the Middle East has disrupted global energy trade routes, pushing costs higher.
Economists warn that inflation will remain above target for the foreseeable future, with gas and food prices continuing to put upward pressure on the index. In response, the European Central Bank is expected to raise interest rates at its meeting next week.
