The German 10-year bund yield surged to the upper 3.1% range on July 31, rising by approximately 0.03 percentage points from the previous day's close.

This increase was driven in part by the Eurozone's flash Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) data for July, which showed a year-over-year growth rate of 2.9%, exceeding market expectations and surpassing June's 2.8% reading.

The core HICP index, which excludes energy, food, alcohol, and tobacco, also rose 2.5% year-over-year, outpacing June's 2.4% figure.

Economists at NQN London point to the data as reinforcement of their view that the European Central Bank (ECB) will maintain its monetary tightening stance for a prolonged period, despite not deviating significantly from market forecasts.
