Eurozone Inflation Surges to 3.8% Amid Soaring Energy Costs
Eurozone inflation jumped to 3.8% in September, driven by a sharp rise in energy costs.
The increase came from 3.2% in August, with energy prices rising by 18.8% annually and 3.9% between August and September.
This puts the European Central Bank (ECB) under pressure to contain prices without pushing up borrowing costs for households and businesses.
The energy shock accounted for roughly 1.7 percentage points of the 3.8% headline inflation rate, according to secondary reporting based on the Eurostat breakdown.
