Eurozone Inflation Surges to Three-Year High Amid Energy Price Spike
European inflation has reached its highest level in three years, driven by surging energy prices due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. According to official data from Eurostat, inflation across the eurozone accelerated to 3.8% in September, up from 3.2% in August.
This marks a significant increase and nearly doubles the European Central Bank's (ECB) target. The ECB had set an inflation target of around 2%, which is now being far surpassed by rising prices. Energy goods saw a particularly sharp increase, with inflation reaching 18.8%.
In Belgium, inflation was even higher, estimated at 4.6% last month, up from 4.2% in August. The jump in energy prices due to the conflict is being cited as the primary cause of this rising inflation, which has significant implications for consumers and businesses across the region.
