Eurozone Producer Prices Surge 1.9% on Energy Costs
Producer prices in the Euro Area climbed 1.9% in August 2026, marking the largest monthly increase since March of the same year. This rise matched expectations following a 1.6% gain in July. The surge was primarily driven by a sharp 5.6% jump in energy costs, fueled by a near 70% spike in benchmark natural gas prices across Europe. This spike has raised electricity bills and increased production costs for a wide array of manufactured goods.
Prices also rose across other sectors, including intermediate goods (0.4%), capital goods (0.2%), durable consumer goods (0.4%), and non-durable consumer goods (0.1%). On an annual basis, producer inflation accelerated to 8.2% from 5.8% in the previous month, reaching its highest level since February 2023.
