Fed Deputies Send Signal: No Rate Hike Imminent
Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh has been tight-lipped about interest rate expectations. However, his top deputies have made it clear they're willing to provide more guidance. In separate speeches, Fed Vice Chair Philip Jefferson and New York Fed President John Williams stated that the central bank has time to assess the economy before considering another rate increase.
Their comments, delivered just two days apart, led to a retraction of investor expectations for a rate hike this month. Officials emphasized that the Fed may adjust its policy further, but did not rule out future rate increases altogether.
