Fed Hikes Interest Rates for First Time Since 2023 Amid Growing Inflation Concerns
The Federal Reserve raised interest rates by a quarter percentage point to a range of 3.75% to 4%, marking its first increase since July 2023.
Chairman Kevin Warsh emphasized that the move was aimed at containing inflation, which he described as 'elevated.'
'We removed a dose of accommodation so that financial and credit conditions would be more consistent with our ultimate objectives,' Warsh said during a press conference.
The rate increase comes after the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that core inflation rose at a hotter-than-expected pace in August, fueling concerns that inflationary pressures may be broadening beyond temporary effects.
