Fed Holds Interest Rates Steady Amid Elevated Inflationary Pressures

The U.S. Federal Reserve held interest rates steady for the fifth consecutive time at its July meeting, leaving the target range for the federal funds rate unchanged at 3.5 to 3.75 percent.

This decision was widely expected by markets and marks a wait-and-see stance from the Fed, which has been building expectations for an interest rate hike in coming months.

The year-on-year growth rate of the U.S. headline consumer price index dropped to 3.5 percent in June from 4.2 percent in May due to plummeting oil prices.

Despite this, the United States continues to face elevated inflationary pressures relative to the Fed's 2 percent inflation target.
