Fed Holds Interest Rates Steady Amid Ongoing Inflation Concerns
The U.S. Federal Reserve maintained its target range for the federal funds rate at 3.5 to 3.75 percent, marking its fifth consecutive monetary policy meeting without an interest rate hike.
This move was widely anticipated by market analysts, who had been expecting a possible increase in rates due to ongoing inflationary pressures.
The Fed's decision comes as the year-on-year growth rate of the U.S. headline consumer price index dropped to 3.5 percent in June from 4.2 percent in May, largely due to falling oil prices.
However, the United States still faces elevated inflationary pressures, with the Federal Open Market Committee stating that 'inflation remains elevated relative to the Committee's 2 percent goal, in part reflecting supply shocks that have driven price increases in certain sectors, including energy.'
