The Federal Reserve held its benchmark interest rate steady at 3.5-3.75% on Wednesday, despite pressure from three Fed presidents to raise rates and combat inflation.

The decision was a close vote of 9-3, with regional Fed Presidents Beth Hammack, Neel Kashkari, and Lorie Logan dissenting in favor of a quarter-point increase.

Fed Chair Kevin Warsh repeated his pledge to 'steer clear' of providing forward guidance on interest rates, focusing instead on the real-time behavior of market participants.

Warsh emphasized that inflation remains above the Fed's 2% target rate and that the committee is committed to delivering price stability, even if it takes time.
