The Federal Reserve held interest rates steady on Wednesday, but three members dissented. According to Reuters, Ann Saphir and Michael S. Derby reported that the Federal Reserve's decision was a surprise to many economists.

No changes were made to the benchmark federal funds rate after a two-day meeting of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC). The current rate remains at 5.25-5.50%.

In a statement, the Fed said that it will continue to monitor economic data and inflation trends before making any further decisions on interest rates.

The three dissenting members of the FOMC voted in favor of increasing the benchmark federal funds rate by 0.25 percentage points. This move was seen as an attempt to combat rising inflation and stabilize the economy.
