Fed Keeps Rates Unchanged as Inflation Fears Linger
The Federal Reserve has decided to leave its key interest rate unchanged at around 3.6%, despite persistently high inflation caused by the Iran war and a spike in energy prices.
In a closely watched decision, the Fed's rate-setting committee voted 9-3 against raising rates, with dissenting votes coming from Beth Hammack, Neel Kashkari, and Lorie Logan. The three Fed officials had previously signaled support for a rate hike to combat high inflation.
The uncertainty over the Iran war has driven energy prices higher, intensifying inflationary pressure on the Fed's policymakers. New Fed Chair Kevin Warsh has declared that he has 'no tolerance' for elevated inflation and is under pressure from President Donald Trump to cut rates instead of raising them.
