Fed Holds Steady as Inflation Concerns Persist
The US Federal Reserve maintained its target range for the federal funds rate at 3.5 to 3.75 percent, marking the fifth consecutive monetary policy meeting with a wait-and-see stance.
This move was widely anticipated by market analysts, but concerns about inflation remain high as the year-on-year growth rate of the US headline consumer price index dropped to 3.5 percent in June from 4.2 percent in May due to plummeting oil prices.
Despite this, the United States still faces elevated inflationary pressures compared to the Fed's 2 percent target.
The Federal Open Market Committee stated that 'inflation remains elevated relative to the Committee's 2 percent goal, in part reflecting supply shocks that have driven price increases in certain sectors, including energy.'
