Fed Maintains Control over Short-Term Interest Rates, Reserves
New York Fed official Roberto Perli stated that the Federal Reserve has maintained strong control over short-term interest rates and kept reserves within an ample range, according to Reuters.
The central bank's monetary policy implementation framework remains effective, with Treasury bill purchases proceeding smoothly, Perli said. He manages the New York Fed's System Open Market Account and oversees the technical implementation of monetary policy as the Fed works to meet its employment and inflation objectives.
The Federal Reserve has been using Reserve Management Purchases (RMPs) of Treasury bills to help maintain appropriate levels of reserves and ensure effective control over the federal funds rate. The purchases were recently reduced to zero after officials determined that the financial system had sufficient liquidity, Reuters reported.
