Fed Merger Looms as Brent Johnson Warns of Dollar's Hidden Risks
Brent Johnson, chief of Santiago Capital and author of The Dollar Milkshake Theory, shared his insights on the recent Federal Reserve rate hike in an interview with Michelle Makori. According to Johnson, this move is not a victory lap but rather a calculated attempt by the new Fed chairman to gain credibility early on, which will be lost later.
Johnson believes that the US government will eventually absorb the Federal Reserve and Treasury Department into one entity, effectively making them coordinators rather than separate entities. He expects this merger to happen gradually, without a formal announcement.
In his opinion, a strong dollar is a powerful tool, but it can also harm the US more than others. Johnson emphasizes that higher interest rates hurt everyone else more than they hurt the US, which is why he calls them the 'milkshake'.
Johnson also warns against challenging the US Treasury Department, led by Scott Bessent, as they hold significant power and control over global currencies. He believes that forcing the dollar to remain king may not necessarily lead to price stability.
