Fed Officials Consider Rate Hike as Inflation Remains Above Target

Recent minutes from the Federal Reserve's monetary policy meeting have revealed that many officials are considering raising interest rates if inflation fails to slow down. The meeting took place on July 28-29, and the minutes were released this week.

The central bank has set a target of 2% for its core personal consumption expenditures (PCE) gauge, but current figures show it running at 3.3% year-on-year in June. The July figure is due out on the 26th, and many Fed officials believe that a rate increase would be necessary to achieve this goal.

Several officials argued that 'price pressures are broad-based' and that the Fed should adopt a more restrictive policy stance to achieve its goals of price stability and maximum employment. They warned that delaying such a move could result in having to take steeper and potentially more costly tightening measures later.
