Fed Raises Interest Rates Amid Inflation Concerns
The Federal Reserve raised its benchmark rate by a quarter of a percentage point to 4 percent in its first hike in over three years, citing inflation concerns.
Chairman Warsh stated that inflation has remained above the Fed's target for more than five years and is 'too high and has been for too long.'
This decision goes against President Trump's repeated requests to lower interest rates. It also puts pressure on Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who faces a mounting debt crisis.
The Treasury will need to refinance $9.7 trillion by fiscal year 2026, which is about a quarter of the national debt.
