Fed Raises Rates Amid Market Skepticism
The Federal Reserve raised interest rates by 25 basis points to a range of 3.75%-4.00%, marking its first hike since July 2023, according to Fed Chair Kevin Warsh and the FOMC.
This decision was met with skepticism on Wall Street, as the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped over 1% following the announcement, while both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite experienced slight declines.
Warsh emphasized the need for further action in achieving the central bank's long-term inflation target of 2%, stating that 'Today's policy action will support a timelier return to the Committee's 2% goal.'
The FOMC's latest Summary of Economic Projections suggests further rate increases, with expectations of an additional quarter-point hike by year-end.
