Fed Renovation Project Hijacked Amid Cost Overrun Fiasco
Following a scathing report from the Federal Reserve's Office of Inspector General (IG), Fed Chair Kevin Warsh has announced that the General Services Administration (GSA) will take over management of the central bank's headquarters renovation project. The project, which began in 2022, was initially estimated to cost $1.3 billion but has since ballooned to an estimated $2.4 billion by December 2024.
The IG report highlighted significant mismanagement, including a failure to establish a guaranteed maximum price for the project. Chairman Warsh stated that the GSA's expertise in managing large-scale construction and federal workspaces makes them the ideal partner to bring this project back on track.
President Trump has weighed in on the controversy, criticizing former Fed Chair Powell for the exorbitant costs and timeframe overruns. The president called for Powell to be forced to resign or face a lawsuit for corruption or incompetence.
