Fed Set for Potential First Rate Hike in Over a Year
The Federal Reserve is set to convene on September 15-16 in Washington D.C. for its fourth annual gathering of the year, where it will communicate its perspective on interest rates.
Maintaining a constant level of 3.50%-3.75% since July, there's been significant market fluctuation with the probability of an increase shifting from below 30% to approximately 65%. Currently, indicators position the likelihood at about 50%, rendering the outcome nearly equivalent to a coin flip.
A 25-basis-point increase is highly probable, as reflected in the CME FedWatch Tool's 92.4% probability and a Reuters survey showing 85% of economists anticipating a rate hike, with 53% projecting at least one more adjustment by March 2027.
