Fed Unveils Rules for Stablecoin Issuers in US
The Federal Reserve has proposed new rules for stablecoin issuers in the US. The proposal was made on Thursday, September 24, 2026, and covers reserve requirements, capital requirements, and banking activities related to stablecoins.
The Fed drafted these rules as a follow-up to the GENIUS Act, which established a federal regulatory framework for stablecoins last year.
According to the proposal, payment stablecoin issuers under the Fed's supervision would be required to back all tokens with specified reserve assets, including short-term US Treasury securities.
