Fed Weighs Rate Hike Amid Strong Economy
The Federal Reserve is set to make a crucial decision on interest rates as Americans await news on whether borrowing costs will rise again. The move comes as policymakers face stiff inflation, despite a strong economy.
Mortgages, auto loans, credit cards, and small-business financing remain expensive, leaving the Fed with a delicate balance between controlling inflation and avoiding further economic strain.
Former White House economic adviser Steve Moore warned of the 'balancing act' ahead, saying, 'We have to do whatever we can to bring that inflation rate back down to 2% or lower.'
Moore predicted a quarter percentage point increase in the federal funds rate, citing inflation running at 3.5%, above the Fed's long-term target of 2%. The effective federal funds rate stood at 3.63% as the Fed entered its September meeting.
