Federal Reserve Hikes Interest Rates Amid Inflation Concerns
The Federal Reserve has raised interest rates for the first time in three years to combat rising inflation, citing high costs at gas pumps and across the economy due to the ongoing conflict with Iran.
President Donald Trump spoke on the tarmac at Joint Base Andrews, stating he had a conversation with Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh before the decision. He claimed that Warsh's board is 'very hostile' and suggested this influenced his decision.
However, when asked if he believed his conversation impacted Warsh's decision, Trump replied, 'No, I don't think so.' He emphasized wanting Warsh to be independent but added, 'I'm very good at this stuff. Interest rates are too high. We should have the lowest interest rate anywhere in the world.'
Federal Reserve Chairman Warsh highlighted the central bank's independence and refused to disclose details of his conversation with Trump.
