Federal Reserve Hikes Rates Amid Inflation Concerns
The Federal Reserve announced a rate hike on Wednesday, marking a change from their previous stance of keeping interest rates unchanged. The decision was made after considering various factors, including the impact of the renewed fighting in the Middle East on gas prices and the resilience of the US economy.
The Fed's move is aimed at slowing down borrowing and spending to cool inflation, which has remained stubbornly high despite the economic growth. However, financial markets appear reassured by the Fed's commitment to fighting inflation, with the 10-year Treasury yield slipping a bit on Thursday.
Warsh emphasized that the economy is healthy and has continued to grow despite repeated blows from things like higher gas prices, tariffs, and higher interest rates. He noted that the 'least well-off' have the most to gain from steady growth and stable prices.
