The Federal Reserve has raised interest rates for the first time in three years to combat persistent inflation. The move puts the benchmark overnight interest rate between 3.75% and 4.00%, a significant departure from the previous hold pattern.

The decision was unanimous, with Fed policymakers signaling further hikes are likely to tackle price pressures that show little sign of cooling down.

President Donald Trump expressed frustration with the move, calling the Federal Reserve Board 'very hostile' and 'very political'. He linked the interest rate hike to the ongoing trade deficit issues and demanded: 'LOWER THE INTEREST RATES FOR THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AND FAST!'
