Feds' Interest Rate Hike Leaves Markets Guessing
The Federal Reserve's recent interest rate hike has left markets wondering what's next. Chicago Fed President Austan Goolsbee emphasized the importance of decisive action to combat inflation, stating that the Fed should 'act boldly' when necessary.
Goolsbee pointed out that US PCE inflation was at 3.7 percent as of July and that achieving the 2% target depends on easing supply pressures. He also noted that strong performance in artificial intelligence investments has contributed to ongoing supply shocks, which have had a significant impact on inflation.
Bessent, U.S. Treasury Secretary, expressed confidence in Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh, saying both he and President Donald Trump have faith in his leadership. Bessent also highlighted the increased size of the Treasury's bond repurchase program to address liquidity conditions in the markets.
