Fed's Rate Stance Puts Republican Camp in the Crosshairs

The Federal Reserve's decision to keep interest rates unchanged has put the spotlight back on November's midterms, casting unease over the Republican camp. The Trump administration's policies, including tariffs, have contributed to higher borrowing costs.

Despite President Trump's criticism of high interest rates as detrimental to the economy and his public pressure on the Federal Reserve to cut its benchmark rate, the Fed has maintained its target range of 3.50% to 3.75%. Three out of 12 voting members dissented, describing the outcome as a 'hawkish hold', which keeps future rate hikes possible.

The administration had touted lower interest rates as essential for growth and affordability, with Trump calling them 'Rocket Fuel' for growth. However, data shows that inflation has nearly kept pace with hourly wage gains over the last 12 months, casting doubt on the promise of falling prices.
