Fillmore Seeks Federal Support for Halifax Defense Sector Growth

Halifax Mayor Andy Fillmore will travel to Ottawa this week to advance the city's priorities in defense, housing, and infrastructure. The mayor sees Halifax as Canada's Defense City, with enormous opportunities for growth and development.

Fillmore will meet with federal representatives and municipal leaders from across Canada to discuss defense-driven growth, infrastructure requirements, and Canada's defense industrial capacity. He will also participate in the Summit on Housing and the Canadian Economy, where he will join a panel focused on the role municipalities play in increasing housing supply and supporting economic growth.

The mayor believes that housing is key to economic infrastructure and that city hall needs to use its tools to make it easier for people to build homes. He also emphasizes the need for adequate infrastructure to support growth, including defense investments expected from Canada's generational investments in national defense.
