Financial Sector Poised for Boost as Interest Rates Rise
The Federal Reserve's interest rate hikes have been in focus recently, but not all industries are negatively affected. In fact, financials may see a boost from higher rates.
One key sector that could benefit is banks, which can earn more on loans while paying less on deposits when the spread between these two increases. A steeper yield curve can also help with this.
The Fed's rate hike this month was centered around inflation, but it also indicated slightly higher growth expectations in 2027 and resilience in domestic spending, giving the central bank more room to raise rates without immediately raising recession risk.
Analysts at Charles Schwab have noted that financials are seeing upward earnings revisions from a steeper yield curve and solid net interest income, as well as improved capital markets activity.
