Former Super Sentai Stuntman Convicted of Burglary as 'Spider-Man Thief'

A former stunt performer and suit actor in Japan's Super Sentai franchise has been convicted of breaking into dozens of homes and stealing millions of yen. Yasutomo Ihara, also known as the 'Spider-Man Thief', used his physical skills to climb walls and reach upper-floor balconies and windows.

Ihara's career as a stuntman ended in 2009 after he suffered a knee injury, leaving him struggling to find stable work and facing financial difficulties. Between 2013 and 2014, he targeted at least 43 homes in Japan, stealing cash and other valuables worth over 8 million yen, or approximately $77,000.

The stolen money was intended for Ihara's personal use, with reports stating that he planned to enrol in a professional acting school to revive his entertainment career. In 2020, Ihara was convicted of these crimes and sentenced to five years in prison.
