FTSE 100 Edges Up as Weak US Jobs Report Eases Gilt Market Pressure
The FTSE 100 index rose modestly on Friday to close at 10,461.95, up 0.32% from Thursday's close of 10,428.27.
The gain came after a weak US jobs report for September, which added only 29,000 jobs and revised down July and August by a combined 60,000.
The Federal Reserve now has an 80% probability of keeping rates on hold in October, according to the CME FedWatch tool, down from 36% a week earlier.
Gilts rebounded from their highest yields in decades after the US jobs report, with the 10-year gilt yield falling about nine basis points and the pound rising 0.2% to around $1.3226.
